I study Fashion Design at Coventry University at degree level, before coming here i studied at Leeds University doing textile design but i dropped out after a year as even though leeds is a renowned university and city i didnt find it was everything everyone trys to make it out to be.. atleast not for me anyway, although the vintage shops there are amazing ^.^ I applied for Coventry University when i looked at studying again as i wanted to do primarily a fashion design course with potential to look into other areas such as visual merchandising/shoe design and also get to use alot of new technology which includes sonic welders (the noise off these is horrible but the end result is worth it ) and digital printers ! I found through researching universitys for fashion design coventry university was i believe the best university for new technology and also would give me the chance to discover my own identity and my own 'brand', allowing me to also work in the plastics/metal workshops and get to do 'live projects' like work at the clothes show! I was so happy when i got in, especially after the interview where i had got so nervous i couldnt talk.. In the first year i learnt pattern cutting, basic sewing skills including seams/zips/hems and also how to make the pattern and sew a pair of trousers and a dress, it was hard work and late nights but when you finish them and see them its all worth it! I also learnt how to make a hat and a shoe (which was awesome ^.^) and we got to create a garment using laser cutting and do a photoshoot for it at the end of the year ! Im in my second year now and so far we've been experimenting in styling/photoshoots/installations/digitial printing and i helped build the stand at the clothes show! You also get to go on amazing trips throughout the year as part of your course, the best one was where i got to meet zandra rhodes i was stood so close and bombarded her with questions.. this photo was one of my groups finals for our latest photoshoot and the scarf on the right is mine ^.^ (we also designed and made the crazy sponge/balloon costume!)
