Okay so it is now 18.07 on monday, and i have spent all day trying to sit down and write this blog. Honestly the most frustrating day, last night i recieved an email from george @ asda where i had submitted an application for their placement year to be a design assistant and basically they wrote to inform me that i hadnt been successful. If you know me at all you will know that im made of tough skin, but when you first get a shock of 'your not good enough' it takes a while to be like 'okay, ill just proove them wrong'. I was at that stage this morning, realising this is a good thing, for every job you apply for there will be so many more you havent been successful at, and i want to do bigger and better than george and its their loss! Also there quite commericial and i really want to specialise in print so i follow the saying of 'everything happens for a reason' and i just need to persevere with finding more places to apply to. So, yes i was sat down ready to write my blog when i decided i should check my bank account to see how much money i had as i really need to purchase ink for life drawing/my creative cv and ive put off seeing the dreaded amount for long enough so i log onto online banking.. only for it to take me to a page asking me to put in my card number/pin/etc all in my bankings format. Basically i have a big BIG virus on my laptop and i had to go to the bank and sit there while i cancelled all my bank accounts i have with them, create new ones and change online banking. Ridiculous i know and only something that could happen to me, my computers been running slow for a few days and ive been meaning to get my friend to look at it but it would happen right now when i have this blog to be writing and pdp to be handed in on friday >.< ALSO as if my day wasnt going badly enough i rang up work to try and sort out my hours, i managed to secure having new years eve off yay ^.^ but i want to go home next saturday/sunday/xmas eve and on a previous rota they had said i had these days off but they changed it and now i dont and there not being helpful.
But anyway, onto the final stage in styling ! Tonight i am aiming to write alot of blogposts as i need to hand my computer in to be fixed >.< so be prepared !
Once me and Kayleigh had bought our jeans from the charity shop, we opted for a skinny fit as thought this worked best in contrast to the floatiness of the garments when we had taken the photos also because obviously charity shops dont have a vast array of colours in our needed size we opted for black for the long dress/orange shoes and then blue for the shorter dress/pink pumps! When i got home i put them in the tub of bleach we had used for the previous nights example and left them to soak for about three hours. Kayleigh then came over and we started working on them with sandpaper for the black jeans i did three rips up one leg and 2 rips up the other and then one on the back, i kept the rips on the upper leg and left the detail in the bleaching at the bottom and also the fraying (we worked hard fraying these jeans at the bottom for literally 3 hours when the bleach had been washed off/jeans had been dried) . I thought this would work well as when the dress is walking up the catwalk the rips will be seen when it floats along so it'll be quite de-structed grungey when you can see it all, but when you cant you'll just be able to see the roughness of the bleach and the black and where the bleach and black have met some orange which i think looks really effective. The orange trainers against the black also work really well.
For the blue jeans kayleigh ripped up the back pockets and did a few rips up the top of one of the legs and then a large one on the knee as we liked how this worked when we tried on the example pair of jeans with the shorter dress. We both then decided to dip the jeans in the bleach for about 30 minutes, all over just to lighten the blue denim up.
We then washed them, dried them, and like i said the following day we frayed the bottom of the, to do these we cut off the hems and then with unpickers started picking the threads out, i think this detail works so well as when you cant see the rips when the models/garments are static you get the texture from the fraying at the bottom.
We took photos of ours and sent them to one of the girls who was going to pin the styled photos on the garment bags so the stylists back stage would know what they were doing.
So at 8.30 am me and kayleigh arrived at the clothes show to meet this girl, she hadnt printed out any styling shots, hadnt pressed the garments, the jeans the other girls had done had been done half heartedly and apart from me and kayleighs no one had supplied the white ankle socks.
FRUSTRATING. At 8.30 am when youve been working on styling all night for a couple of nights at this stage you start to loose patience. I rang angie up and she picked up white socks as the stand design group were coming later in the day and we were all putting together the stand, so thankfully we managed to get them all with socks. However there were no photos and you could see the mistakes in the practise run through.. also no girls had thought about undergarments and so outfits were going down the runway with underwear on show. Which is unsuitable for our target market and also not the look we were going for. It was very disappointing as me and Kayleigh had worked hard on our looks and they just hadnt bothered so as a collection i didnt feel it was strong enough.
However i was so happy with me and kayleighs outfits and tomorrow we're going to the clothes show and im going to get photos of our outfits on the catwalk for my portfolio ^.^ to show styling, im only going to include our two outfits though but i feel i have benefited as i was so happy with our styling and the other girls in our group have missed out on a really important opportunity to produce something for portfolios. This styling project has also helped me learn to hold my tongue but also speak up and work hard regardless of others so atleast what i submit im proud of.
