Maybe, The Grinch Thought, Christmas Doesnt Come From A Store

I am sat here on a saturday, finally not working and im going to sit here and catch up on some entrys ive been wanting to include, showing the processes ive gone through with both my styling and stand groups for the clothes show ! This week has been pretty crazy, alongside sorting out everything for the clothes show ive also been sorting out handing in work placement applications, still cleaning for 20 hours a week and also planning xmas ^.^ the xmas planning is more something to escape the work, so it seems to crop up more and more as i attempt to escape the mountains of work !

Stand Design Mock Up Plan: Angela Sanchez
Last week we had a huge group meeting, so all of our class and within this all the indivdual groups had to go up to the front of our lecture room and basically give details on what their plans were/what help they needed/space they needed. As stand design this was a vital stage for us that before this we had struggled to grasp exactly what space each individual group needed as shall we say communication was lacking slightly!? When we went up to the front of the class as stand design we started to describe our initial ideas which consisted of lots of big boxes covered in magazines (to relate to matej kren) and the concept of these being placed round the stall and acting like building blocks so everyone that came onto our stand could make new shapes from them, providing an interactive point. We also had decided on ideas of creating a webbed effect between the posts (as our stand is like an empty gazebo so just has the very basic frame, no walls/ceiling) so you could peer through gaps in the fabric webbing, almost like our nick cave stand, so it gives this idea of wonderment about what is inside. Other ideas included candyfloss up table legs (relate to wil cotton), paper lanterns/candyfloss hanging from the ceiling, boxes also being covered in fabric and a circus tent photobooth. My main idea that i contributed related back to our photoshoot where we had wanted to use shadows projected onto our models to create a layered effect, different shapes/textures. I liked the idea of using a projector on our stand, projecting images onto the cupboard/pillar we have inbuilt into it and using images of our photoshoots/ also perhaps projecting up images of the people from the photobooth (well this was an idea until the meeting!)
So basically we pitched these ideas to our class and Rebecca and we got alot of feedback, which was so helpful as i think working in such a big group alot of people can get carried away with ideas/others can feel like they lack input because of strong personalities, so standing like this i feel like everyone felt they had more a say. So the first point that came up was that perhaps the boxes were too boring, didnt quite have a feel of 'wonderland' and because its the clothes show, people wouldnt stop to rearrange the boxes and it wasnt textured enough which they felt it needed to be to relate to nickcave, and wasnt colourful enough to relate to wil cotton. Rebecca and Ann had come up with the idea of creating two robots, and we decided we could make one from the magazine covered boxes (matej kren) and then we could make the other one from fur and this would providde colour and texture and relate alot to nick caves soundsuits but in a fun way, using the boxes and creating structures would also provide photo opportunities and appeal much more to our target audience. I think it was an idea that brought our initial ideas together, which sometimes you need someone outside your thoughtspace to put together! The next point that needed discussing was our idea of a circus tent that we could build and girls enter and get dressed up from a dressing up box and then we could take their photos and upload to facebook so they could tag themselves, social networking is a good idea as by getting them to 'like' our page on facebook where we upload them we could provide them with more information on the university. Although i dont quite agree with the outcome we came to from the discussions in our class for this point, i can see other points of views. Basically alot of people brought up a point that not all young girls will have facebook and that because most girls (our target audience) do have mobile phones with cameras we could get them to take the photos on the phones, this is the point we reached and the point which we've gone forward with, although i couldnt help but voice my opinions that not everyone has a phone with a camera and doing it like that takes away the feel of a photobooth and would involve us almost i feel hassling girls to give us their phones to take the photos.. However this does make it easier for us as cuts out the hassle of hiring a camera/having a photographer in there/securing the equipment.
Also within this cut out the idea of projecting the photos onto the wall as we wont be using our own camera, so this limited us  to using our photoshoots which sits alongside digital medias slideshow there showing on a mac, so we thought this could potentially be nice to run on a mac and our our projector slide (but typical communication problems got in the way, more on this in a post later >.<)
The paper lanterns Sarah had made everyone liked, especially the idea of suspending them somehow from the ceiling and putting lights into them to make them have a glow, and hanging candyfloss like clouds alongside/intertwined with these! I have photos of the paper lanterns to put into a later post ! So as you can see from the plan once we had discussed (/argued/debated) we managed to decide what table space all the other groups needed and managed to assign jobs like the dressing up box to the activites group etc, this was especially useful to us as we needed to know how many tables we had to find/cover/allow space for and also by listening to all groups ideas everyone could begin to see the bigger picture and more ideas emmerged as a consequence! I wish we had a group discussion before as we only had  a week from that point to get everything sorted, however it meant we then had to start being organised/delegating tasks and pitching in together to get everything done !
Shall write up about the styling part of this meeting next time!
